DIY Diaper Rash Butt Spray (aka My Version of CJ’s BUTTer Spritz)

DIYButterSpritz

My homemade organic version of CJ’s BUTTer Spritz – I dare say it’s better since it contains aloe vera oil.

Am I weird because I love diaper changing time? I’ve used the RIE approach to diaper changing since Faye was born and it has paid off big time. It is all about slowing down and giving the child gentle, undivided, unplugged attention. Ask for their help. Ask for their permission. Sure, it may take 15 minutes, but sometimes, those 15 minutes are the highlight of my day.

I also have fallen in love with my DIY version of CJ’s BUTTer Spritz. Its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties keeps diaper rash away and softens skin. The dispensing via a spray method versus dipping your fingers into a tub keeps it sanitary and my hands goop free. Plus, it smells great. I always spray one or two pumps into my hands, rub my hands together and then put them to my nose and inhale deeply. I then give my hands to Faye to smell and she raises her eyebrows as if in agreement it smells lovely. I never actually hear her inhale though, so I whole heartedly believe she is screwing with my head.

DIAPER BUTT SPRITZ

INGREDIENTS – makes 75 g/4oz

DIRECTIONS

If your coconut oil starts as a solid: Using a kitchen scale, zero it with a microwave safe bowl on top. Add the coconut oil and heat 10 seconds at a time in the microwave, stirring between intervals. When the coconut oil is melted, place bowl back on the kitchen scale and zero it. Add the remaining ingredients, one at a time, zeroing after each ingredient. Stir. Pour into a 4oz bottle and secure with a spray cap.

If your coconut oil starts as a liquid: Using a kitchen scale, zero it with the 4oz bottle on top. Add one ingredient at a time, zeroing after each ingredient. Secure bottle with a spray cap. Shake to mix oils.

 TO USE

Give the bottle a quick shake to redistribute oils. Spray one or two pumps into the palm of your hand or directly onto your little one’s butt. Rub around to coat the area.

  1. For those of us with tree nut allergies, do you have a suggestion to replace the coconut oil? Increase the other base oils in proportion? Only increase one? I’m a huge fan of castor oil, but it can be thick. I’ve mixed it with jojoba in the past with success. Maybe that?

    • Thank you! I really love this recipe, too. I still use it on Faye during every diaper change.

My guess is it would still work if you omitted the aloe vera oil. However, aloe vera oil has a cornucopia of incredible properties (anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral to name a few) so I’m not sure if the recipe would be as potent without it.

I purchased mine through Amazon. (There is an affiliate link in the ingredient list. It’s a Prime item, so you it will arrive ASAP.)

  3. I recently made this – thanks for sharing – but mine came out very thick. I used the same bottle my original CJs Butter Spritz came in, and it does not ‘spray’ like the CJs version does. It more dribbles out of the tip of the spray bottle….Any idea as to why? Should I tweak the proportions of the oils a bit to thin it out? Any advice/suggestions you have would be appreciated! Thanks 🙂
